Antler lighting, such as Crooked Creek Antler Art, can help create a rustic look in your home. These lights are either made from real antlers or materials that are designed to look like real antlers. The antler or antler-like material is typically light in color, so it needs to be cleaned often to prevent staining and to keep your fixture looking its best. But if you have never had this type of lighting fixture in your home before, you may be unsure as to how you should clean it. Here is how you should go about cleaning your antler lighting.

Cleaning Real Antler Lighting

The best way to clean real antler lighting is to use a mild liquid soap. Add a couple of drops of a mild liquid dish soap in a small bucket and then fill the bucket with warm water. Dip a soft cloth into the soapy water and then wring the cloth out so it is damp, but not dripping wet. Then begin wiping down the fixture to remove dirt, dust and other residue. After the fixture is clean, dampen a clean soft cloth in cool water and then wipe down the surface of the antlers to remove any soap residue.

When you clean the antlers, avoid using any products that contain bleach or abrasive scrubbing products. Bleach can discolor your real antlers, while abrasive scrubbing products can leave behind permanent scratches or scrapes.

Cleaning Faux Antler Lighting

The most common material that faux antlers are made from is an acrylic material. The best way to clean acrylic is to mix equal parts of water and white vinegar in a bowl. Dip a soft cloth into the bowl and then wring the cloth out. Wipe down the fixture to remove dirt and dust. If you do not have any vinegar, a glass cleaning product, such as Windex, can be used instead.

As is the case with real antlers, you do not want to use any abrasive cleaning products or scrubbing pads on the faux antlers. Abrasive products, such as cleaning powder and scrubbing pads can damage the paint that is used on the faux antlers or leave behind scratches and scrapes.

When you purchase antler lighting, your lighting should come with care instructions. Always make sure to take the time to read these instructions. They will tell you whether the antlers on your lighting fixture are real or faux antlers, and how the manufacturer recommends you clean and care for the light fixture.
